I firmly believe that all Members of the Oireachtas should have a statutory duty to provide detailed accounts of donations and public funding on an annual basis. I was particularly disappointed that the Government voted down amendments to the Electoral (Amendment) Political Funding Bill 2012, moved by Senator Fiach Mac Conghail and myself in March 2012. Our amendments would have ensured fully vouched expenses to Party Leaders and Independent Members and would have banned corporate donations to political parties.
